Charlotte & Erwin

When I spotted this wedding across on photographer Yoshi’s page, I loved the way that Charlotte and Erwin’s wedding blended both their cultures into their wedding day. I contacted Charlotte to tell me more about her experience of getting married in Fiji:

I was on holiday with family in Fiji when Erwin and I first saw each other. Erwin found my number in the compliments book at his mother’s massage business that we had just visited and he called me when I reached home in Australia. We spent many nights getting to know each other over the phone until I went to visit him in Fiji again.
We fell head over heels in love and took turns visiting one another until Erwin moved to Australia. Erwin proposed in July 2016, we had our first child, Tama’kai in April 2017 and were married in August 2017 at the Seaside Chapel, Mana Island.

For our wedding, we wanted neutral colours with bright, tropical, local flowers and greenery. We also wore traditional Rotuman tifui’s around our necks which were made by family.

I wore an Alfred Angelo dress and our hair and make up was done by Hair & Make Up Perfectionist. The Bridesmaids were dressed in Champagne Infinity Gowns from the Gown House and our flower girl wore a dress handmade by a family friend. The flowers were a range of local tropical flowers, with a trailing bouquet for the bride and matching poesies for the bridesmaids and flower girl.

We were lucky enough to work with Leanne from I Was Married in Fiji who was amazing with every little part of the organisation from deciding on a location, booking flights and accommodation to arranging all the little details like flowers and decorations. Mana Island resort do great wedding packages, which include most things you need and we researched other things like photographers, hair and make-up and gifts for our guests. We tried to keep it as simple and stress free as possible.

Mana Island Resort provided the set up and décor, which was simple as the chapel and location itself was beautiful enough. We had a full Catholic service followed by the Baptism of our son by the priest from Mount St Mary’s Parish in Nadi. We had our reception poolside, which was both beautiful and had enough space to dance the night away.

The set-up was white seat covers and bows, greenery with candles on the tables and this all was provided by Mana Island Resort. The buri fans were our gift to guests and were provided by Versatile Fiji. We had a five course set menu included in the wedding package, which was delicious! For our wedding cake we chose a three tier cake with soft white icing and decorated with tropical flowers to match the wedding party flowers which was provided by Mana Island Resort.

For our entertainment we had traditional Polynesian dancing provided by the Erwin’s sisters (part of the Rainbow Wahiines Entertainment Group) and we did the DJing ourselves using the DJ system provided by Mana Island Resort and our own music on a mobile phone

My advise is to keep it as simple and as stress free as possible. Focus your time and energy on the things that are important to you. For example, we really wanted memorable photos to take home and so spent more time looking into the styles and prices of local photographers than anything else.

Our highlight of the day was after we had been pronounced husband and wife, walking hand in hand through the flower shower with our smiling family and friends there to share the moment with us.

We were on a beautiful island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean with everyone who was important to us celebrating our love for one another. You can’t get better than that! It was truly a special memory and one we will never forget. The day goes by so fast and when you look back the small details really don’t matter. Everything falls into place in the end anyway, even if it is in Fiji time!
