Wedding | Taylor & Ben | Plantation Island Resort

Taylor and Ben met by chance in early 2013 when Taylor accidentally attended the wrong party. Although none of her friends were there, she ended up meeting the right person, and over a decade later, they finally tied the knot.

In June 2023, while on holiday in Fiji, the couple watched a breathtaking sunset together. Taylor turned around to find Ben down on one knee, ready to ask the question that would lead to their happily ever after.

We catch up with bride Taylor on planning her destination wedding in Fiji:

Initial Planning

We chose Plantation Island Resort on Malolo Lailai Island as our wedding location. With several nearby resorts, it offered our guests a variety of accommodation options if they wished, and it allowed us to enjoy different dining experiences. We couldn’t be happier with our choice! The sandbank ceremony at Plantation Island Resort provided the most magical setting for our vows.

As a bit of a perfectionist, I wanted every detail to be just right, so I brought along a bag of decorations to match our color scheme, and the resort team truly exceeded my expectations. I also researched photographers, and Plantation Island Resort provided a list of recommended vendors for entertainment, photography, hair, and makeup, which I reviewed to ensure each was a perfect fit for our day.

Getting Ready

I booked Totoka Hair & Beauty, and they were absolutely amazing! I also scheduled a pre-wedding treatment the day before, and they made me feel so at home—such a wonderful team. I couldn’t have been happier with my hair and makeup, and my bridesmaids and family looked fantastic too.

My dress was from Alma J in Auckland. It might not have been the most practical choice for a Fiji wedding, but when you find “the one,” you just know!

I lost my mum a few years ago, so my accessories were incredibly meaningful—they included her veil and tiara from her own wedding day. My bridesmaid dresses were from Bec + Bridge, and the groom and groomsmen wore suits from Tarocash.

The Ceremony

Our ceremony took place on the breathtaking sandbar at Plantation Island Resort—a longtime dream of being surrounded by crystal-clear blue water and pristine white sand. Plantation Island Resort provided and beautifully set up all the decor for the ceremony. We chose a color scheme of white and gold, accented with touches of greenery in the floral arrangements, creating an elegant and natural feel.

The Photography Session

Anais’s genuine communication and thoughtful approach were what truly drew us to her. She captured the most special moments of our wedding day, which we’ll treasure forever. Anais remembered every detail we had discussed, including who was who in our wedding party—she made everything feel personal and seamless. I highly recommend her to anyone.

My new husband, Ben, absolutely dreads photoshoots, but Anais’s gentle guidance helped him feel comfortable and relaxed. Having previously been a contestant in Miss Universe New Zealand in 2014, I’ve had some experience with photoshoots, and I can confidently say Anais Photography is fantastic!

The Reception

The Holiday

In total we spent 17 days in Fiji, we had a full week prior to our wedding so we could settle into Fiji time (and work on our tans)
We had a pre wedding function the day prior with our wedding guests which we did the dolphin Safari, as our day after function we had a white party and took our guests to Cloud9.
Our whole wedding was truly amazing.
Relax, because on the day it all comes together
