I adore weddings that think outside the box (you may have already noticed this) but in particular weddings that think outside the walls of a resort.
There is so much that Fiji has to offer, that you shouldn’t feel restricted to having your day where you are staying. For me, that wasn’t really available 3 years ago or did I know of any services. Today with the likes of Dua.Tani Fiji Weddings & Events – weddings like these are achievable!
After a recon trip to Fiji to search for a venue from the Coral Coast to Denarau, Brad & Jess struggled to find something they really liked. It was “fate” that introduced them to Dua.Tani and with a second trip their venue was found. The Gardens of the Sleeping Giant.
Jess shares with us the details of their day. Captured by Leezett and Rusila Leezett Photography (one third of Dua.Tani) who captured the day stunningly from dawn to late.
The Planning / For us, planning the wedding was as much fun as the actual day. We hadn’t traveled to Fiji before, so decided to have two “planning” trips prior to the wedding. We first flew to Fiji in November 2014 to pick the wedding location and make sure that this would be the perfect time of year.
We had decided from the start that we would have the wedding on or near the main island. On departing Fiji in November 2014, we were no closer to picking a venue then when we arrived. We had visited each resort on the Coral Coast and Denarau Island, but didn’t find the right venue for us.
Thankfully, by luck (or fate) I received an email from Louise at Taste Fiji. Louise introduced us to the Dua.Tani package and we were set!
Over the following months, Louise organised and planned all the non-venue aspects of the wedding.
We decided on the venue during our second “planning” trip in June 2015. Louise drove us to a number of venue options but once we had arrived at the Garden of the Sleeping Giant the decision was made.
I would like to say that it was my organisation skills that made the planning process so easy, but all credit goes to Louise. She is truly amazing and there is no chance our wedding day would have been so great without her!
The Bride Wore /Arlyn by Maggie Sottero in ivory over nude. I purchased this at Abbie Bridal in Sydney. I had a lot of trouble trying to find shoes that would go with the colour of my dress. I purchased my shoes from Deseo Bridal Shoes in Crows Nest. The style is Lustre by Pink and Deseo were able to dye the shoes to match my dress. As long as no water proofing is used, Deseo can re-dye the shoes again after the wedding.
The Location / The Garden of the Sleeping Giant is so beautiful. I would highly recommend anyone visiting Fiji to check it out. As a wedding venue, the location options are endless. We were able to use three separate areas for the wedding (ceremony, cocktail hour and reception).
The Ceremony / Was near the Lilly Pond at the Garden of the Sleeping Giant. There is so much greenery in this area of the gardens that we wanted to keep the set up very simple. Louise organised and designed the set up and achieved exactly what we were hoping for.
The Reception / We wanted an elegant reception blending in with the location. The menu was a 3 course meal catered by Taste Fiji.
Entrée was alternate serve of navua prawn kokoda, green papaya salad, basil, lime, toasted shallots or whipped local ricotta, sun dried cherry tomato, wild rocket, bread crisps.
The Main was served family style which allowed everyone a selection of caramelised pork belly, seared chicken breast, local basil & peanut pesto, steamed jasmine rice, local green vegetables, carrot battons and crushed new potatoes, olive oil & lemon.
For Dessert we had the wedding cake and dessert table. The dessert table had macaroons, Chocolate brownie fingers, cheesecake jars and chocolate pots.
The Cake / A 3 tier naked cake made by Taste Fiji. White chocolate, chocolate and caramel.
The Entertainment / We had an acoustic duo who played for the guests on the bus trip from Denarau Island to the Gardens. They continued to play until the start of the reception.
DJ Will provided hours of dancing entertainment. He did a great job and I don’t think the dance floor was ever vacant.
We had fire dancers after the main was served. We were also able to get arrange for fireworks as our wedding fell on Diwali (the festival of lights). Louise made all the arrangements and it was a great way to finish the “formalities” of the day.
The Advice / The Dua.Tani package has so much to offer to ensure your wedding day is perfect. There are so many amazing, beautiful places in Fiji that could be the venue for your wedding and Dua.Tani is allowing this to happen. The two best decisions we made in planning our wedding were Fiji and Dua Tani.
