Kelly is one of those brides I see popping up over Bula Bride’s channels over a period of time and then finally is hitched! And what a divine wedding it is, with a colourful tropical boho look and feel.
Andrew & Kelly opted for a Sofitel Fiji Wedding as the Sofitel was one of their favourite resorts while staying in Fiji during their frequent visits. The Sofitel is my favourite resort for a Fiji Wedding on Denarau offering a unique ceremony setup and willing to go beyond the package. Andrew & Kelly’s wedding is a fine example of this.
Captured by the very talented Rusila of Leezett Photography, Kelly shares with us the details of their colourful Sofitel Fiji Wedding.
The Planning / We were engaged in October 2014 so I didn’t have much time to plan. We had been to Fiji a number of times as Andrew is Fijian. The Sofitel has always been our favorite resort and we have stayed there a number of times. So we knew that is where we were going to get married.
The Stationery / Inkling Design and print did all save the dates invites thank you cards and table seating cards. All designed based off my vision of fresh bright bold colors’ with a water colour feel.
The Hair & Makeup / Hair and Makeup by the fabulous Clint at Silver Strand! Dramatic clean look for the eyes soft lip and cheeks. My hair is short and my head pieces were large! So Clint made me look fabulous!
The Flowers / Grace Creations made us Bougainvillea Bouquets. The Bridesmaids had white and I had multi-coloured. I wanted something soft and but something that was still available in Fiji. And bougainvilleas were perfect they were easy to use and come in amazing colours.
The Ceremony / The ceremony took place on the beachfront of the Sofitel. All the ceremony set up was supplied by the Sofitel. I requested the arch be covered in Bougainvilleas and fern leaves and have wood logs with over flowing bougainvilleas sitting in a vase on top. Walk through arch way was leaves and bougainvilleas to give a real colour soft romantic relaxed space. We wanted to have a very relaxed colorful boho feel to our ceremony space were people could feel relaxed but no they were still attending a wedding.
The Cake / Taste Fiji made out amazing amazing cake it was lays of meringue like filling and cake with three layers banana/ lemon coconut and white chocolate and passion fruit. Topped with fresh bougainvilleas.
The Bride Wore / Grace Loves Lace – Emmi wasted with Dottie skirt for ceremony and an amazing floral Shut the Front Door designed head piece custom made with the colours’ I was after. For the ceremony I took off the dotti skirt and used a crystal belt from Grace Loves Lace and than change my head wear to another custom made crystal and feather piece by Heidi at Shut the Front Door. I didn’t wear any shoes instead had leg Hannah – it was amazing beautiful and went perfectly with my boho, floral casual theme.
The Photographer / Rusila from Leezett Photography she was lovely during the whole process from the moment I met her in Brisbane at the Bula Bride stand at Queensland Brides Expo. I knew that I wanted her to be our photographer. She was local, creative, smart, kind and above all else could take a lovely photo. Rusila exceeded our expectations ten fold. She is amazing at connecting with her clients to capture moments that will last a life time. She captured our day beautifully with ease! We are so very honoured to have her as not only our wedding photographer but now a family member.
The Reception / Was held ocean front at the Sofitel. We wanted soft flowery light table decorations. – silver sequence table runners white table clothes and chairs no sash- tea candles in vases and bougainvilleas flowing out of tall vases and also in boxes on the table
All the styling was created by grace creation – after long nights going back and forth with what we wanted with the beautiful Aka. We had a canopy of fair lights that floated above and a love sign off to the sign that reflected beautifully at night time.. Our guests enjoyed dancing the night away on the grass. We had a chill out area filled with pillows under a white tent so people could take time out to chat and have a drink or two.
The Entertainment / Serenaders for the ceremony and cocktail hour singing all tradition Fijian music. DJ Will for reception and Manakilagi Cultural Entertainment Fiji for amazing dance and firer show that was after our dinner.
The Highlight / The highlight for Andrew and I was seeing all of our close family and friends enjoying the wedding day we created and had dreamed about … And letting them see why Fiji is so important to us apart from Andrews being Fijian! The Sofitel was where we first went on a holiday together … It was instantly apart of our heart. We wanted our guests to feel the love we have for each other in the place we love most in the world, and I’m pretty sure we accomplished that . Our guests had a wonderful time start to finish and so did we. Highlight of the night if we had to choose – Was the amazing dance and firer show put on by Manakilagi Cultural Entertainment Fiji an experience many of guests had never got to have before and will remember for a life time. It was out of this world, exciting, fun funny and got everyone involved!
The Advice /
- Try new things – Don’t be afraid to do something a little out of the box, be unique.
- Strike up a friendship with your vendors – I have made lifelong friendships with most of my vendors.
- On the day don’t be to stuck on the small stuff – Fiji truly is the happiest place on earth and the people are why it is that way, treat people (vendors) how you would like to be treated.
- Most of all enjoy Fiji and the wedding process.
