Vow Renewal | Fiona & Joshua | Malolo Island Resort
Fiona and Joshua’s love story began in 2007, and after a breathtaking mountaintop proposal in Queenstown, they tied the knot on November 11, 2014.
A decade later, on November 11, 2025, they chose to renew their vows in a heartfelt celebration of their 10-year wedding anniversary. This special milestone was made even more meaningful as they shared the experience with their children, creating beautiful new memories together as a family.
We catch up with Fiona on planning their vow renewal in Fiji:
Initial Planning
When it came to planning, I turned to Bula Bride, browsing through different resorts and photographers to find the perfect fit.
We chose Malolo Island Resort for our vow renewal, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. It came highly recommended by many, and I actually stayed there 25 years ago, back when it had a different name. The resort’s beautiful backdrop, close proximity to the mainland, and family-friendly atmosphere made it an ideal choice. Plus, they offered a complimentary vow renewal as part of our accommodation package, which made the decision even easier!
Our biggest inspiration for the vow renewal was our children. Celebrating our milestone anniversary with them by our side made it all the more meaningful.
Getting ready
I had my hair and makeup done by a lovely stylist from the Totoka Plantation team, and they did an amazing job. The whole experience was so relaxing, and it made me feel extra special on the day.
For my dress, I wanted something light, pretty, and effortless, perfect for a vow renewal in Fiji. I found the perfect off-the-rack dress in a clothing store in New Zealand—simple yet elegant, just what I was looking for. My daughter’s dress came from Little and Lovely in Australia.
As for the boys, we kept it casual yet classic, choosing linen shirts and shorts from various clothing stores in New Zealand.
The Ceremony
Malolo Island Resort took care of all the décor and setup for our vow renewal, creating the perfect relaxed and intimate atmosphere. We wanted something simple and family-focused, so we kept it just between us—no guests from back home, and even our children only found out the day before! We didn’t have flowers or bouquets, keeping things minimal and natural. One of the most special parts of the day was reusing our original vows from 10 years ago, making the moment even more meaningful as we reflected on our journey together.
Photography:
We had Anaïs Chaine as our photographer—she came highly recommended, and I loved her natural, family-focused style, which was perfect for us since we have young kids. We wanted a mix of ceremony photos and updated family portraits, and she captured everything beautifully. Looking back at the photos, I absolutely love them—they perfectly reflect the emotion, love, and joy of the day.
After the ceremony:
We had a private dinner on the jetty after our photos which the resort organised for us and gave us complimentary French champagne. They also had a singer from the resort serenade us and sing us a song – unbeknown to us it was one we played out our wedding 10 years earlier which was super special.
Travel Itinerary:
We stayed at Malolo for 6 nights, then Sofitel for 4. The day after our vow renewal we went to Honeymoon Island for the day on a private tour, had a picnic and the whole island to ourselves which was really special.
Overall Highlights:
Renewing our vows with our children by our side was incredibly special—they are our greatest achievement from our first 10 years of marriage. It was so meaningful to reminisce about our wedding day, reflect on how far we’ve come, and celebrate everything we’ve built together. Creating new memories while reaffirming our commitment to each other made the day even more unforgettable.
