Veronika and David’s love story began in Vienna in the spring of 2021. On a rainy May day, they crossed paths at the breathtaking Schönbrunn Palace, where the gardens were unusually quiet and seemingly reserved just for them. From that very first meeting, both knew they had encountered someone truly special.

Fast forward to April 7th, 2024: under a starry sky, David proposed to Veronika on their balcony at home — a romantic and intimate moment that perfectly reflected their love.

When it came time to plan their wedding, the couple knew they wanted something different. Both avid travelers and not ones to seek the spotlight, they dreamed of a celebration far from home, just the two of them. After exploring their options, Fiji stood out as the perfect choice — a journey to the other side of the world and the promise of saying I do on a breathtaking beach in paradise.

We catch up with Bride Veronika on planning their elopement in Fiji:

Initial Planning

When we first started planning, the Bula Bride website became our go-to guide. We knew we wanted something intimate and far from the crowds, which is how we found Yasawa Island Resort & Spa — a remote island just a short flight from the mainland that instantly felt perfect.

The first step was setting our date and securing the resort about a year in advance. From there, the team made things easy by handling most of the details, from the ceremony schedule and minister to the marriage registry. The biggest challenge for us was the paperwork back home, which took months, but Fiji’s process was refreshingly simple with the resort’s help.

We also planned a three-week trip, combining Fiji with Australia, and by autumn 2024 we were working on our outfits and accessories. We kept it simple and relaxed, choosing styles that suited the beach without following a set theme — keeping the day focused on just the two of us.

Getting Ready

For my big day, I decided to do my own hair and makeup. I booked a professional consultation in Vienna beforehand to pick up tips and tricks — a lifesaver, since the resort didn’t offer these services. The result was exactly what I wanted: natural, polished, and very me.

My dress came from Elfenkleid, a small, exclusive Vienna boutique that handcrafts its own designs. I first discovered the store near our neighborhood and was immediately drawn to its originality, high-quality craftsmanship, and timeless designs. It felt like the perfect gown for our intimate celebration.

David wore a tailor-made suit from Sir Anthony, a Vienna-based men’s fashion store run by a friend of his. The combination of a personal connection and their reputation for excellent quality made it an easy and meaningful choice for him.

The Ceremony

Our wedding ceremony took place on the stunning beach at Yasawa Island Resort & Spa. We chose this location for its exclusivity and remoteness — it felt like our own private paradise. The resort staff handled all the décor, from the floral wedding arch and decorated path leading from our bungalow to the beach, to my bridal bouquet, hair wreath, David’s pocket square, and the table arrangements for our dinner.

We didn’t have a specific theme or color scheme — we wanted something simple, tasteful, and chic. That said, we incorporated a few beautiful Fijian touches: my bouquet and hair wreath reflected local floral styles, David’s pocket square matched the flowers, and two Fijian warriors proudly escorted me from the bungalow to meet David on the beach.

The ceremony itself was incredibly intimate and emotional. The Methodist minister from the neighboring village arrived by boat to marry us right on the sand. We had written our personal vows in advance and reading them to each other was one of the most touching moments of our relationship. After exchanging rings and receiving a blessing from the minister, we signed our marriage certificate and were congratulated by the resort team. We toasted with champagne and began our photo session, capturing the very first moments of our married life — a memory we will cherish forever.

The Photography

We chose Ocean Studio Fiji as our photographers based on a recommendation from our hotel. While we had explored other options on the Bula Bride website, Yoshi and his team immediately stood out. Their tasteful presentation of photos and videos, along with glowing references, convinced us — and they absolutely lived up to our expectations. From our very first contact, everything was organized and professional, a small taste of the attention to detail and artistry that defines Yoshi’s work.

Beyond their skill, it was such a pleasure to have Yoshi and his team with us on the day. They were attentive, kind, and had an incredible eye for light and natural moments. The customer service was remarkable: by Tuesday — just two days after our Saturday wedding — Yoshi had edited nearly 1,000 photos and delivered them to us on a beautifully branded USB stick right at the airport. We were blown away.

For both photography and videography, we wanted to capture the little moments, the signs of our affection, and the magic of our love — all in a simple, tasteful style that felt authentic to us.

We can’t put into words how happy we are with the final photos and video. Every time we look at them, we are reminded of our special day and of us as a couple: deeply connected, warm-hearted, romantic, and grounded in our love. They captured not just the moments, but the very essence of who we are together — and for that, we are forever grateful.

After the Wedding

Since it was just the two of us, our reception was an intimate continuation of the ceremony. We toasted with our witnesses and the wonderful staff of Yasawa Island Resort & Spa right on the beach, followed by a relaxed photo session with the talented team from Ocean Studio Fiji. In the evening, we enjoyed a romantic wedding dinner by the sea, with sparkling wine gifted by the hotel, a three-course meal starting with ceviche, surf and turf for the main, and a delicious banana wedding cake prepared by the resort’s amazing chefs.

There was no formal theme or color scheme — we kept things simple and tasteful, with touches of Fijian style in the surroundings. Entertainment was just our favorite songs playing softly on a portable music player during the photo shoot, allowing us to fully enjoy the moment. We ended the day under the starry sky on the beach, savoring the intimacy, magic, and memories of our special day.

Highlights and Advice

Our biggest highlight was simply being the two of us in this breathtaking setting — alone on the beach, in the middle of the South Pacific, over 16,000 kilometers from home. It felt like stepping into another world, a day that truly belonged to us, one we’ll never forget and will always carry in our hearts. On top of that, the hospitality of the Yasawa Island Resort & Spa team made everything even more perfect. Everyone was so kind, welcoming, and attentive — they truly made our day feel effortless.

For any Fiji-bound brides, our top advice is to trust your gut — it will guide you through so many decisions. Embrace the beautiful Fijian culture and consider adding special touches, like a Fijian choir; we heard them sing after our wedding and were incredibly moved, especially since we had a small issue with the music during our ceremony.

Be sure to take care of all your documents well in advance. We started gathering ours in January for a June wedding, which worked out perfectly. Ideally, your hotel will handle coordination with Fijian authorities — this saves a lot of stress and can mean you don’t need a third-party agency.

Finally, choose your photographer carefully. These photos will become your lifelong memories, and having anything less than perfect in such a stunning setting would be a real shame. The right team will capture your love, the beauty of Fiji, and every magical moment just as you remember it.
