Bianca & Joshua – InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa

Bianca and Joshua met at the gym in Adelaide. Joshua was training with one of Bianca’s friends.  She thought he was quite a looker, so Bianca introduced herself and the rest is history.

We catch up with Bride Bianca on what lead her to book a destination wedding in Fiji:

BRIDE  & GROOM: Bianca and Joshua

THE DATE: 20th of August 22

THE LOCATION: Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa

THE NUMBER OF GUESTS: 50

We always wanted a destination wedding. A tropical setting, fun and casual with just close friends and immediate family. A friend recommended we look at the Intercontinental Fiji after she had been to a wedding there, so we went for a visit and fell in love. We knew it was the place we had to get married.

I work for Phil Hoffmann Travel, so working with the agency meant the travel part was easy. We used the Intercontinental wedding planners to help coordinate the day and our stay for the guests.

As long as you’re aware of ‘Bula time’ it’s pretty easy. Our only significant issue was Covid so we had to move our wedding date twice, rearrange everything twice, start and stop arrangements but we finally made our dream wedding happen this year!

We did lots of internet research, discussions with the hotel and of course researching on Bula Bride, it was one of the first websites I came across. I loved looking at all the reviews of the Intercontinental resort, the gorgeous wedding photos and how they showcased the facilities, it really helped cement the venue for us. We also used Bula Bride to research venders for the wedding and day trips etc. It is a beautifully laid out website and very easy to use.

GETTING READY:

Getting ready was fantastic, very laid-back, me and my girls ate, drank champagne, and got ready in the beautiful spa facilities. And I believe the boys had an even more relaxed experience. Josh actually went jetsskiing on the morning of the wedding with his best man.

We booked Totoka Hair and Makeup for our hair and make up services. I couldn’t speak more highly of these girls! They were absolute professionals and so wonderful to deal with. They were happy to tailor makeup and hair to meet every individual’s needs.

My dress was from: Jenny and Gerry’s Bridal – Australia. and the Bridesmaids dresses were from Forever New. The Groom & the guys wore Peter Jackson & YD.

The Intercontinental helped us arrange our wedding gifts, they were a bag of delicious nuts, which had a cute little card and message saying “nuts about each other” and our wedding date.

THE CEREMONY:

Location: The Navo restaurant at the Intercontinental. Our ceremony and reception was on the lawn in the front of this restaurant by the beach.

The hotel arranged the set up and decor for the ceremony for us. From lanterns to a beautiful Arbor drapery with flowers. We hired a giant neon Love sign which we got from Fiji Weddings Atelier; they were also fantastic.

For our wedding theme, we just wanted to beautiful, tropical setting with green and white flowers to compliment. The Intercontinental arranged flowers and bouquets for us, and they were stunning! They were better than I imagined. We had acoustic serenaders for the ceremony provided by the resort. Wow they were outstanding and blew us away!

We wanted a short and simple ceremony. Our celebrant Usa was amazing. He was fun and personable! Josh and I exchanged our own vows and the official part with the celebrant. There were some added humour in mine for entertainment value at Josh’s expense.

GETTING PHOTOS:

We chose Leezett Photography to do our photos and video. We found her on Bula Bride, they had great recommendations and reviews. They had some incredible wedding videos we saw, and we knew we would regret it if we didn’t opt for the video package as well.

The photography was amazing, and they captured every wonderful moment. We got more than expected and they were all amazing quality! They seem to capture every single wonderful moment.

THE RECEPTION:

We had our reception on the lawn of the Navo restaurant, with the beautiful fairy lights and under the Fiji stars. We opted for a whites and greens theme to complement the Fiji scenery. The Intercontinental provided and set up the decor at our reception and they did a fantastic job.

Food-wise, we had an hour of varied canapés provided by the resort. For our dinner menu there was a delicious avocado and salmon entree and chicken or beef for the main course. We had coconut panna cotta and chocolate, marble and vanilla wedding cake for dessert. It looked and tasted sensational.

DJ Red-Tins was our DJ for the reception. He was the main Intercontinental DJ recommendation. At the end of the reception, we continued the celebrations at the Kama bar.

Post wedding, we had an amazing boat day onboard Sabre, a 70 foot yacht, which cruised out of Port Denerau. This was one of our favorite days, taking us to a sandbar where we were served drinks, snorkeled, paddle boarded and swam in the ocean. We had a delicious feast, plenty of drinks and dancing. A must!!

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY:

Marrying my best friend. The most gorgeous sunset you couldn’t pay for. Getting ready with my girls. Drinking and dancing the night away in Fijian style.

Magic moments, I’ll never forget!! It truly was the wedding of my dreams!

YOUR ADVICE FOR BRIDES PLANNING A FIJI WEDDING:

  • Be aware that responses may take longer when booking an international wedding in Fiji. Give yourself plenty of time to plan and avoid the stress.
  • Work with a hotel who can help you coordinate your ceremony and reception or get a wedding planner to assist.
  • I can’t recommend Fiji as a destination and the Intercontinental enough. Nothing was too much, and the staff went above and beyond. It was such a wonderful experience and I’m so glad we waited and had our dream wedding in Fiji once the borders were open again.
