Wedding Packages can some times be perceived as ‘what you see is what you get’ – not at all! Majority of resorts offer packages – they are great platform to start building your Fiji Wedding and can be surprisingly great value! Don’t think that you are stuck with whats on offer – you can tailor your package to suite your wedding day needs.
Chelsea Hall from Chelsea Jayne Weddings Fiji joins me on the blog to elaborate more on Fiji Wedding Packages and her top tips when choosing.
When getting married in Fiji all resorts have some kind of package, whether it is for the ceremony only, or an all-inclusive package for both your ceremony and reception. I often get asked, “Do you need to go with everything in the package? Are the resorts flexible to change any of it?”
The answer is yes, most resorts are happy to change or swap items in their package; some even will give you a credit for items you don’t want, so it’s always worth asking them. At some resorts you can just hire the venue and plan your ceremony yourself. However I suggest you go through the resort as they have long standing relationships with the Ministers/Celebrants and importantly, the Registry Office, which issues your marriage license.
The most common ceremony package inclusion are;
- Professional Wedding Coordinator – (this is the resort based coordinator not a professional wedding planner)
- Minister or Celebrant
- Bridal Bouquet & Grooms Buttonhole
- Fijian Choir or Serenades
- Fijian Warrior Escort
- Photography – Limited number of photographs sometimes presented in a traditional Tapa album and CD.
- Marriage license and escorted return transfers to and from the local registry office
- Wedding Cake
In regards to bringing your own suppliers, you can definitely bring your own, though some resorts do charge a surcharge for this. Always check first before you book your external supplier as the surcharges can be expensive, but if it’s still something you want, always put quality before price.
My top tips when choosing between resort packages:
» Make sure you read the terms and conditions of the all packages and make special note of their minimum numbers or wedding guest accommodation requirements.
» If there is something in a package you don’t want ask for a credit or for it to be swapped for something else.
» In regards to the photography they usually only offer a limited number of photos (usually under 100) this not a lot and you may want to check the quality of the photographer. See if they will swap this for something else and look at hiring an alternative photographer that will supply you with more options and give you the type of photography you are looking for.
» Be careful if you wanted a Catholic ceremony as you will have to do marriage classes here in Australia and your Priest would need to contact the Fijian Priest to confirm everything has been completed. Some Priests will also only do ceremonies inside a Chapel not outdoors.
» In the all-inclusive packages that include ceremony & reception, some resorts include a beverage package where’s others don’t so make sure you understand what is included.
» Does the package include accommodation for the bride & grooms; this is usually great value and one less thing you need to pay for!
» Check if the packages are in Fijian dollars or Australian dollars.
The wedding packages in Fiji are fantastic value, make sure you look around and find a package and resort that suits you and your guests and never be afraid to ask questions, and get everything in writing!

Bula Bride’s Top Tip – Don’t feel restricted to whats on offer in the packages. If they co-ordinators show you bouquets and setups that are available and your not happy – always see what else they have available or can be achieved within the package budget. Send examples via email of what you had in mind to help the co-ordinator envisage what your after. ~Kylie
