Wedding | Lindsey & Josh | Mana Island

When Lindsey moved to Australia in 2018, she found a beachside apartment with an amazing roommate, Morgan. During her first weekend there, Morgan invited her out with her boyfriend and his best friend, Josh. A blind breakfast date turned into a kiss on the dance floor that night, and they’ve been inseparable ever since.

Josh proposed on a magical hike along a trail where their love deepened. Surrounded by rushing rivers, rainbows, mountain air, and sunshine, Lindsey was overwhelmed with love and excitement when she saw Josh on one knee with a stunning ring. It was a moment she describes as beyond perfect, filling her with happiness and possibility.

As an international couple, they chose Fiji as a central location between their families. With its breathtaking tropical beauty and Lindsey’s unforgettable memories of a previous visit, Fiji was the perfect place to celebrate their love.

We catch up with Bride Lindsey on planning their wedding in Fiji:

Initial planning

While we considered several resorts on the mainland with amazing wedding packages, Mana Island stood out with its incredible offering, exceptional communication, and the picture-perfect setting we envisioned for our wedding. The white sandy beaches and turquoise waters were exactly what we had in mind for our special day.

At the start, we only knew we wanted to get married in Fiji, but we felt overwhelmed by the number of stunning resort options. Bula Bride became our “Bula Bride Bible.” I am not actually sure if we would have ended up locking in Fiji as the location for our destination wedding without Bula Bride as there is just nothing else online similar.

Once we decided on Mana, the wedding team there handled almost everything for us. They were like wedding fairy godmothers, making the entire process unbelievably stress-free. We focused on creating a clear vision and aligning every decision with our values for the big day.

Our wedding was inspired by our love for nature, the ocean, quality time with loved ones, and a good party. We wanted to infuse these elements into a week-long celebration, featuring a sunset ceremony on the beach followed by a reception under the full moon. As a spiritual person, I incorporated unique touches such as a heart-centered meditation instead of a reading, crystals in the decor—including table numbers, nameplates, and my crown headpiece—and a rainbow chakra-inspired color theme for the bridesmaid dresses. Oracle cards and affirmations also added a personal and meaningful touch to the table settings.

Getting ready

We went with Totoka Hair and Make Up for hair and make up services. I didn’t even need to research them—they came highly recommended by so many Real Weddings brides, and their glowing reviews were spot on. They were professional, organized, and fantastic with communication. On both my trial and wedding day, the stylists were incredibly talented, friendly, and attentive, making the experience feel like having another set of sisters in the room. I can’t recommend them enough to any Fiji bride!

My dress was custom-designed and hand-sewn by Judy Copley Couture on the Sunshine Coast, Australia. She uses luxurious local fabrics and intricate detailing, bringing my exact vision to life. Sustainability is very important to me, so choosing a locally made dress felt perfect in every way. It truly was a masterpiece!

My bridesmaids had so much fun with their dresses! Our theme was a rainbow chakra color pop, so each bridesmaid chose a different shade and style that suited them. The only rules were no fast fashion and no short dresses, and despite being spread across the globe, it came together beautifully.

We were looking for a light sandy colour for the men and found the perfect Politix suits at David Jones. We went for a soft organic linen button up and the Politix pants. Josh wore a jacket as well as it was a sunset ceremony and wouldn’t be too hot.

The Ceremony

Our ceremony was held at Sunset Beach during sunset, with the full moon rising simultaneously—it was pure magic! A beach setting was non-negotiable for us, rain or shine, and it turned out to be everything we had dreamed of.

Mana Island Resort handled the ceremony setup and styling, and it was perfect, exactly as I envisioned. My amazing mother, aunty, and friends helped with the reception details beforehand, making it all extra special.

We aimed for a magical and ethereal vibe, with spirituality woven throughout. The ceremony was timed for sunset and tied to the moon phase, set entirely in nature. Our color scheme featured a vibrant rainbow of shades, with guests dressed in bright colors and bare feet. We incorporated Fijian elements like native flowers, a Fijian choir, Polynesian dancing, and a warrior escort for our reception entrance.

Our ceremony was magical and deeply personal. One of my best friends from California officiated, bringing her incredible energy and deep connection to us. Instead of a reading, she led a heart-centered meditation and visualization. We wrote our own vows and cried joyfully through them. At one point, Josh asked if we should swap sides so I could see the stunning sunset and the faces of our loved ones—such a sweet and unforgettable moment. The ceremony ended with a serenade by the choir, sparkling wine, canapés, and the breathtaking sight of the full moonrise.

The Photography

Our photographer was the incredible Kate Weinbender from Katherine Elyse Media. Kate has been a part of my life since I was 10, when she was my summer camp counselor.  Her husband, James, joined her on the day, bringing so much energy and fun—they were truly the life of the party!

We wanted a style that captured pure joy and the stunning natural surroundings. Big landscapes showcasing Fiji’s tropical beauty were key, where we were a part of the scene rather than the sole focus. We opted for vibrant, energetic shots filled with laughter and celebration over the modern, moody aesthetic.

We’re absolutely over the moon with our photos – our favorites are the sunset beach shots as newlyweds under the full moon, plus moments with our bridal party and guests. The fire dancer photos were also a spectacular highlight—worth every penny for any bride considering it!

Our videographer was Tim from The Awe Drop, who came highly recommended by Josh’s best man. Once we saw his work, we knew he was perfect. His creativity, talent, and ability to intuitively capture the essence of the day were exactly what we were looking for.

The Reception

Our reception was held at the main pool area, which we loved for its incredible vibe and proximity to the beach—just a few meters away! The setting under the full moon was a must, and the space was beautifully styled with fairy lights, rainbow chair sashes, and a large dance floor.

The talented wedding team at Mana created the setup, making the process seamless via email. We continued our vibrant rainbow theme, with native Fijian flowers throughout, traditional Fijian dancing, a fire show, and a warrior escort for a touch of local culture. We also care a lot about charity and giving back so instead of a bonbonniere (guest gifts) we chose a his and hers charity and gave everyone a token so they could vote for one of the charities and we made a donation on their behalf.

We went for an open bar to keep the party alive and selected a delicious menu featuring seafood and vegetarian options. Mana also created our stunning three-layer cake—vegan, chocolate, and caramel mud cake—topped with a celestial and crystal design handmade by friends Ellen and Alycia.

Our brother Jesse took on DJ duties, spinning an epic mix of dance anthems from both of our cultures that kept the dance floor packed all night. To end the night, we moved to the beach for a full moon dance party under the stars, celebrating until sunrise over the ocean.

The Holiday

We spent a week in Fiji before the wedding, including three incredible days of pre-wedding festivities! I highly recommend this—it turns your celebration into a wedding holiday with loved ones all around and allows time for site visits and planning with the coordinator. Afterward, we stayed two days to unwind before heading off to our honeymoon in Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

We had my hens/bachelorette party at Malamala Beach Club and it was unforgettable. We rented the private venue, and it was the ultimate celebration—stunning views, pina coladas by the pool, and cherished moments with the most important women in my life. Seeing everyone bond was a true highlight of the trip.

Overall highlights and advice:

It’s hard to choose just a few! The highlights were my incredible husband and our love, the amazing people who joined us, the stunning beauty of Fiji, and how perfectly our dream wedding became reality. The entire experience was beyond what we imagined. We can’t wait to return for our anniversary—Fiji is pure magic.

Relax and trust the process. Fiji’s wedding planners are experts, and everything will come together beautifully. Embrace the flexibility of a destination wedding; it’s part of the charm and keeps things fun. Savor the planning journey—it’s such a special time. And definitely splurge on the fire dancers—you won’t regret it!
