Q&A With DJ Works
Tell us a little about your background?
I have DJed for a little over 20 years to date which started off as a passion for music and seeing its effects on people. I had the privilege to literally DJ at every nightclub in Nadi during the 90s and moved onto group functions for hotels and tour operators and of course weddings. I am a mechanic by trade so I love to work methodically. This has allowed me to be efficient with my setup to diagnose and fix any problem we may have encountered before a wedding.
How did you begin your business?
I saw a booming market for weddings in Fiji and in my case the need for professional DJ services. It started off with me on my own until the request came for multiple gigs on one given day. We have built up over the years enough equipment and staff to do 4 weddings in a single day. We work closely with many big resorts here in Fiji as preferred DJs and have built a reputation on word of mouth.
What services do you offer Brides & Grooms?
At the ceremony, we offer full sound system to be able to play pre-wedding music while guests are waiting, song for aisle walk, song for certificate signing, song for recession and photo taking.
Apart from DJing, we offer a number of services from MCing, area lighting for dining and food stations, up lighting for trees, pillars and walls. We also offer visual equipment such as projectors and screens for those couples wanting to showcase pictures of themselves or a family video of persons not able to make it, in congratulating them.
What do you enjoy the most about what you do?
The compliments (thank you and praises). People coming up and commenting on how clear the sound was, how the sound was just right, not too loud or too low, and the right choice of music. Most of all, seeing the smiles on people’s faces having had a good time or experiencing happiness.
Top tip for Bride & Grooms on their day?
As an entertainer who is there from start to finish, I would like to advise the Bride & Groom that although 4 hours during their reception may seem like a significant amount of time, it will surely pass by very quickly. So I would say, try to follow an event order, keep speeches short and sweet, try and get all the formalities out of the way for more time on the dance floor, make the most of everything. Oh and the cake is not for decoration, make sure your guests try some.
