Caitlin and Thomas’s love story began in 2019 when a mutual friend introduced them at a birthday celebration. What started as an instant connection quickly grew into an inseparable partnership filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Five years later, Thomas proposed during a romantic rooftop dinner overlooking the Formula One Grand Prix in Singapore, combining two of their greatest passions in one unforgettable moment.

After attending a friend’s wedding at Plantation Island Resort, the couple fell in love with Fiji’s breathtaking scenery, warm hospitality, and relaxed island atmosphere. Choosing Plantation Island Resort for their own celebration felt like a natural choice, providing the perfect beachfront setting to begin their next chapter surrounded by family and friends.

We catch up with Bride Cailtin on planning their wedding in Fiji:

The Planning

Planning our Fiji destination wedding was one of the most enjoyable parts of the journey. We found endless inspiration through Pinterest, Bula Bride, and real Fiji weddings, using ideas we loved to create a relaxed and elegant celebration that complemented the natural beauty of Plantation Island Resort.

We were fortunate to work with Tilla and Api from Plantation Island Resort, whose organisation, communication, and attention to detail made the entire process feel effortless. Travel Online also provided invaluable support, helping coordinate travel and accommodation for our guests. As a fairly relaxed bride, I embraced the planning process and loved watching our vision come to life, knowing that even if something didn’t go exactly to plan, it would all work out in the end.

Getting Ready

The morning of the wedding was a true team effort, with family and friends helping everyone look their best. My maid of honour styled my hair, while her sister did my makeup, and the bridesmaids, junior bridesmaids, and mums all pitched in to help with hair and makeup preparations. I even bought my own spray tanning machine, with my husband-to-be taking on the role of spray tan artist before the big day!

For my dress, I chose a beautiful gown from True Society in Sydney. Its lightweight design was perfect for Fiji’s tropical climate, keeping me comfortable while still feeling special. The bridesmaids wore dusty blue dresses from JJ’s House, with each choosing a style that suited their personality and shape. The groomsmen’s outfits were selected by the Best Man, combining pieces from H&M, Connor, Target, and UGG to create a relaxed yet polished look for the island celebration.

The Ceremony

Our ceremony was originally planned for the Garden Area at Plantation Island Resort, but with our final guest numbers, we decided to hold both the ceremony and reception on beautiful Marau Island (part of the resort). While I was initially unsure about using the same space for both parts of the day, it turned out to be one of the best decisions we made. The setting was breathtaking, and the transition from ceremony to reception felt completely seamless for both us and our guests.

Plantation Island Resort provided and styled the majority of the décor, including the furniture, table settings, floral arrangements, and many of the decorative elements. Their team brought our vision to life beautifully, while we added personal touches with DIY details such as our welcome sign, seating chart, ceremony programs, personalised place cards, and shot bottle favours.

Dusty blue was the standout colour throughout the wedding, featuring in the bridesmaids’ dresses, florals, chair ribbons, and table styling. Plantation Island Resort also provided my bouquet and the groom’s buttonhole, while I created the bridesmaids’ bouquets using flowers I sourced myself from Australia.

The Photography

Capturing the day was Ana and Samuel from Ocean Studio Fiji, and we couldn’t have been happier with our choice. We fell in love with their portfolio and their ability to capture genuine emotion, natural moments, and the beauty of Fiji in a relaxed and timeless way.

As someone who feels a little awkward in front of the camera, I appreciated how effortlessly they guided us throughout the day. They provided clear direction on how to pose, where to look, and how to feel comfortable, making the entire experience enjoyable and stress-free.

When we received our photos, we were absolutely blown away. Every image captured the joy, love, and excitement of the day so perfectly. They not only documented how our wedding looked, but how it felt, and every photo brings back wonderful memories—with huge smiles on our faces in every single one.

The Reception

Our reception was held on Marau Island, where guests enjoyed a relaxed BBQ buffet that was a hit with everyone. We chose a three-hour standard drinks package, followed by a bar tab for the final hour, which kept the celebrations flowing well into the evening.

Plantation Island Resort created our wedding cake—a classic chocolate cake—which we personalised with our own cake topper. For entertainment, we kept things simple and fun with our own curated playlist played through a speaker, while my uncle did a fantastic job as MC for the evening.

When the formal reception came to an end, the celebrations continued at Brigham Bar. Although the venue officially closed at 11pm, we kept the party going a little longer with our own music, making the perfect ending to an unforgettable day with family and friends.

Highlights & Advice

The highlight of our Fiji wedding was honestly the entire experience. From the wedding day itself to spending quality time with our family and friends in such a beautiful destination, it was everything we had hoped for. One of our favourite surprises was the fireworks display during our cake cutting, which made the moment feel even more special.

For Fiji-bound brides, my advice is simple: just go with the flow. Not everything will be perfect, and that’s completely okay.
