If you have flipped through the pages of Bula Bride Magazine you may recognise today’s wedding. The Outrigger Fiji Wedding of Tom & Melissa was featured in Issue #1. Today I bring you the un-published pictures and info of this divine wedding.
Tom & Mel met in Barcelona while travelling through Europe at a beach party. “We just clicked from there! I was only travelling for 6 weeks, so I went back home, while Tom continued to travel. We both decided to meet up in the USA a couple months after I left. Tom had a working visa in the UK, but decided to come home which was great as we both live in Melbourne!” ~Mel
Mel is an Interior Designer by trade who loves to dabble in a bit of DIY. So their is no surprise that the details in this wedding a divine! Mel even made her own napkins!
Joined by 60 of their loved ones and captured by Sydney based photographer Hilary Cam, their special day was just that – truly special. They made it their own. Mel share’s with us more details of their big day.
The Planning / The planning was great! Our wedding planner from the Outrigger was great and we didn’t have to organise too much other than ourselves. I got stuck into lots of DIY crafts early on so I dint have to stress about it leading up to the day.
The Groom & His Men / The guys wore suits from Gibson with chequered shirts from Conner. Bowties and suspenders from Etsy.
The Dress / A French lace fitted dress from Fairytales, Melb. It was a backless dress with a beaded back detail. The Bridesmaids wore a lush sequin and sheer dresses from Dahl NYC.
The Ceremony / Was held at the Bure di Loma Chapel . We didn’t want anything too formal, so we chose the theme to be fun and colourful. There were accents of gold sequins, navy, and bright fuchsia. Loose fern leaves lined lined the isle with bunches of ferns on the chairs. Greenery and floral arch at the alter. Bouquets were large bunches of bouganvilleas. I wanted full punch of colour! The boys were simple greenery.
Tom and I wrote our own vows. We felt they were sincere and quirky and would love to have them printed on one of Peachy Flamingo’s banners for our new house!!!
The Reception / Was held at Vahavau. Gold sequin table runners with pineapples that lined the tables. Large fake grass table numbers. I spray painted animal figurines gold and used them as place card holders. Made my own polka dot napkins. Warm white fairy lights draped the ceiling with clusters of white lanters, honeycomb fuchsia balls and peach paper fans hung from the ceiling. The backdrop to the room was giant gold LOVE balloons. Got very windy and ended up in a bunch!! Made my own seating chart. We had a polaroid camera for our guest book with lots of props which made great photos.
The Cake / Black forest cake with buttercream icing, topped off with fresh bouganvileas. Made my own cake stand. I also made our cake topper but I lost it at Melb airport!!! Took me forever to make!.
The Entertainment / DJ William with fire dancers.
The Highlight / We hosted a ‘Welcome to Fiji’ cocktail party a few days before the wedding and it was so much fun!! Our guests were so relaxed and were able to get to know each other. Our photographer was there to capture the awesome fun we had!!
The Advice / Have faith in the wedding planners in Fiji. I didn’t use an external consultant and I delt directly with the resort. I was organised in sending them details on how we envisaged the day and it came together perfectly.
