Looking for something to do the day before or after the wedding with your guests. One idea to truly experience the beauty of the Fijian Islands and have a bit of fun in the sun in the Seaspray Day Sailing Adventure. I would probably recommend this for the day after as you don’t want any sore heads or lobsters before the wedding day!
Stephen Govel is a photographer dividing he’s time between Sydney and the USA. Today he is on the blog to share his and wife Maddie’s day out on Seaspray with their wedding guests. Stephen and Maddie were married at the Sheraton in August 2012.
I found out about this cruise when I was in Fiji after a semester abroad in Australia in 2006. My friend JP and I ended our month long crazy trip with this cruise, and headed straight to the airport to head back to the states afterwards. It turned out to be one of the top things of our entire trip. Naturally we had to do it when we decided to get hitched with a bunch of our closest friends and family in Fiji (JP included)!
We had a website that provided our guests with all of the info about activities that were going to take place during the wedding week (http://stephenandmadeleine.ourwedding.com/), and also explained the trip a little bit in our awesome invites we sent out (I can send you some images if I can dig up an invite). When sending back the RSVP they could tick off if they were keen or not, and how many people in their party wanted to book in. We listed an approximate price because Maddie and I chartered the whole boat so the price would fluctuate a little bit with the amount of people attending. We ended up maxing out the capacity of 55! So. Much. Fun.
On the tour, we did their usual route and were blessed with absolutely incredible weather. Blue skies, the deepest, most blue Fiji water ever, and a perfectly warm August temp. They serve up an amazing buffet for everyone, drinks kept on flowing (which ensued to a wild boat ride back on the Seaspray and eventually the South Sea Cruises transfer boat), the crew was great as usual, while they sang songs and played guitar with everyone. We cruised past many beautiful islands, and ended up snorkeling off of Mondriki where part of the movie Castaway was filmed. We stopped in a local village and partook in a Kava ceremony and helped support the village through their handicraft market. One of our guests who has traveled extensively his whole life had later told me that that day ranked in the top 3 of his entire life. I would wholeheartedly agree, it was truly a magical day.
I have now done the tour on a private charter as well as their normal pay per person route with other random guests. I can say both were incredibly enjoyable and would go back again in a heartbeat. There really are only Pro’s to this tour. The only thing that people might be remotely dissatisfied with would be that you have to take a transfer from Denarau to the sailboat which takes a little while. But you’re in Fiji, get on top and look out at the beautiful islands! The Seaspray were even kind enough to upgrade my wife Maddie and I to the Captains club for free drinks and snacks both ways.
