Arriving in the later afternoon into Nadi, we were unable to take our transfer to Savusavu until the next morning. This ment we had a stop over for the night in Nadi. So what to do when you have 1 night in Nadi?

We stayed at Raffles Gateway Hotel Nadi which is directly adjacent from Nadi Airport. Once exiting customs we walked directly outside where we awaited the Raffles shuttle to pick us up and take us directly to the hotel. Along that strip is a variety of hotels which cater for stop overs, but we thought we would give good old Raffles a crack!

These hotels are made for short stays and definitely not for long. They have the essentials but not the facilities as you would find in a resort. The rooms are comfortable enough, there is a bar, a pool and not to mention a pretty fun slide!

We checked in, headed to our room and headed straight to the pool for a sunset swim. We grabbed a Vonu from the bar to ease into the evening. The resort is dated but I kind of like it’s slight retro feel. The resort was quite with a mix of locals and tourists enjoying the facilities.

The hotel has a restaurant but nothing fabulous, so we took the opportunity to head to Taste Kitchen for Friday night dinner. Taste hold a special menu dinner every Friday and if you are staying over in Nadi or even Denarau I highly recommend jumping in a cab and heading out to dinner. Taste is only 5 to 10 minutes from Raffles Gateway Hotel. A little FYI it’s BYO. Keep posted to their Facebook for weekly menu’s and to book.

In the morning we had breakfast at the hotels restaurant. I didn’t eat much as I got Fiji belly like I always do. But the menu is basic. There is coffee, tea and toast ready to go and a menu to select your cooked breakfast.

If you are catching your transfer with Island Hoppers or Pacific Island Air, they normally do a hotel collection service. Otherwise the hotels shuttle will drop you at the Domestic or International Hotel right across the road.

BB gives Raffles Gateway Hotel 3.5 coconuts out of 5. Convenient, comfortable and friendly staff. The 0.5 is for the slide! Go on it, dare you!
