Q&A WITH LAURENCE & ELANIE OF NADI BAY PHOTOGRAPHY
Tell us a little about your background?
Laurence and Elanie are both from Fiji and are partners in both life & business! Both are from well-known business families who have a long history of service in Fiji. Laurence’s family created Fiji’s largest locally-owned tourist transport company, Coral Sun and Elanie’s family have been running an inter-island shipping company for over a hundred years in Fiji. Service and business come naturally to the couple who enjoy every minute of providing the best possible service for all their clients.
How did you begin your business?
Elanie was working in Fiji’s tourism industry after obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism while Laurence travelled extensively all over the globe and it was while working for 2 years in London that Laurence realized that his photography hobby was fast becoming a serious passion and something he could see himself doing as a career. After returning to Fiji, Laurence was asked by a local agent to photograph a wedding. The couple were so happy with the results that he was asked to do another and he quickly became so busy that Elanie left her job to join Laurence in creating and running Nadi Bay Photography.
What do you enjoy the most about what you do?
Meeting so many new people that you would never have met otherwise and on one of the most important days in their life! I love being able to lend a helping hand, word of encouragement or a well-timed distraction if needed on the day.
Your favourite location for a Fiji Wedding?
Sunset Beach at Mana Island. It’s just ridiculously beautiful.
Your favourite wedding you have shot so far and why?
I have been very lucky that I have had the opportunity to shoot so many great, fun and love filled weddings and to meet the amazing people that I have along the way but I always go back to a wedding I shot when I was just starting out which has always stayed with me. It isn’t really the shoot but the couple and their story that will always keep this as my favorite.
Anny and Mike were an amazing couple from the States that had lived never more than a few houses away from each other ever since they were little kids but who had never met or known that the other existed. Many many years later they finally did find each other and just over a year later they were getting married on a beach on the other side of the world; both getting married for the first time and just a few weeks shy of Mike’s eightieth birthday. (Anny never did say how old she was however they weren’t too far apart ?
I have shot a lot of weddings since then but till this day I have not ever seen a bride as excited or a groom as happy as they were. I will always feel it was a privilege to have been a small part of their wedding and to record such a beautiful event and when I think of them I hope that they are happy and what time they have together is filled with love and happiness.
