When a Bride has a vision of how her wedding should be and can make it happen, especially with the limitations of a destination wedding – its so fabulous to see and needs to be shared! If you love rustic then you will be inspired by Peter & Emma’s Hilton Fiji Wedding.
Peter & Emma had a small intimate wedding and was every bit of divine! Captured by Leezett Finau, Emma shares with us the details of their special day!
The Planning/ I don’t know why but I had always wanted to have a destination wedding in Fiji. It took a little convincing to get Pete on board but the end result was amazing & I wouldn’t change the destination at all. We got engaged in August 2012 and married in just under a year in July 2013. I had picked out my own engagement ring but had no idea when he would propose. I think I waited over a year when one night I was surprised after coming home from work. I walked in the door and there was a tea light lit path, as I walked around the corner there he was bending down on one knee in the middle of a candle lit love heart where he asked me to marry him. Of course I said yes!
The Location/ We only wanted a small wedding with just our immediate family. We picked the Hilton as they catered for small intimate weddings rather than some of the other resorts whose packages were more aimed at medium to larger weddings.
The Dress/ I wore a formal dress from George, a bridal dress just wasn’t me I wanted a really casual wedding. Earrings and bracelet from Samantha Wills. Headpiece from Stephanie Browne.

The Favours/ We did welcome bags instead of favours. I used white kraft bags and filled with welcome note and map, personalised pen and kraft large matchbook, mini jars filled with lollies, Fijian stubby holder, wooden turtle and woven fan. My sister and I designed a Bula sign to go on the front of the bag and I attached Vinaka tags from Peachy Flamingo.
The Flowers/ I always wanted fresh tropical flowers rather than artifical flowers so I used local supplier Tadra Flowers. My bouquet consisted of red and pink gingers, pink anthuriums and heliconias with folded green money leaves, wrapped in twine with grooms buttonhole matching. The centrepieces for the reception table matched my bouquet and the colours looked beautiful. My maid of honour had a wrist corsage. I also got wrist corsages and buttonholes for our parents.
The Ceremony/ Was at the Lawn beachfront area at the Hilton, a little sand circle with a palm tree in the middle. As included in our package from Fiji Weddings we had the elegant setup, which included Fijian mat and aisle scattered with gingers and aisle lined with Moroccan lanterns, 4 pedestal tables topped with large vases of gingers and a signing table with vase of gingers.
The Reception/ Our reception was set up on the beach. We had a bamboo canopy with white drapes, fairy lights and hanging tea light baubles down the centre. Instead of a white table cloth we went for the rustic feel of a wooden table with white table runners. I took over my own menus that were printed on kraft paper and designed by my sister and I. I used luggage tags hand stamped for name tags and wrapped shell lei’s around the menu. We hung little Mr & Mrs burlap signs on our chairs. We then had a dance floor area set up of bamboo poles with lights strung between.
As the wines were really expensive in Fiji we decided to go with beer and cocktails for beverages. Everyone loved the cocktails and I don’t think the wine was missed. The frozen mojito and the mudslide were big hits. We had our own little bar set up on the beach and my sister and I designed a cocktail menu so everyone knew what was on offer.
The Cake/ 1 tier chocolate cake covered in fondant, wrapped in burlap and lace ribbon with personalised cake toppers by Kylie Stewart of Peachy Flamingo
The Highlight/ I loved our welcome bags and all the other little DIY touches such as menu. The reception set up was exactly how I wanted and just felt magical. The Polynesian and fire dancers added a great surprise entertainment to the night.
