BRIDES NAME & GROOMS NAME: Lillian & Arthur Chaudhry

THE LOCATION: Namale Resort and Spa, Savusavu, Fiji

Arthur and I met in January 2017 in Sydney, Australia. I was traveling from the United States and Arthur was traveling from the United Kingdom. We are both Scuba Instructors and moved into the same house for a Scuba Diving internship; his room was across from mine and the rest is history! Instantly we fell in love. We spent a few months taking a road trip around Australia and were engaged a few months later in August 2017.

When we were living in Australia we always talked about taking a Scuba dive trip to Fiji but our jobs took us around the world.
When we had the time to take a holiday and plan our dream wedding instantly we both thought Fiji.
Since we are both from two different countries it became overwhelming and difficult to try and plan the typical big wedding. We decided to focus on us and what we pictured on our dream wedding day and what came to mind was a small intimate ceremony in Fiji, someplace we always wanted to go together. Once we knew the wedding would be located in Fiji we began searching online of wedding venues. During our search we saw the web page for Namale, Fijis #1 All Inclusive Resort and Spa. Instantly we were like that’s the place we want to get married! Beautiful location and all inclusive makes it easy so we can enjoy our wedding holiday to the fullest.

First we emailed Namale to enquire about having our wedding there and got a quick response from Chris Keefe the Reservations Agent. He was very helpful and answered the million questions that went through our minds. He sent us the wedding brochures and gave us wedding package options. We were easily able to visualize what a wedding at Namale would look like and it honestly was so simple.

Once we booked our 7 day stay and wedding for Namale Resort and Spa through the Reservations Agent Chris Keefe put us in contact with our wedding concierge Ima Miller. She also was very helpful quickly answering all our questions. This made it so incredibly easy. She sent us everything we needed to provide and legal documents needed. She informed us on what to expect when we arrive during our stay including the wedding day. We were sent venue options, flower options, hair and makeup options and food and cake options. All we needed to do was look at a few sample photos tell her what we wanted and it was done! So easy and stress free.

GETTING READY

Our ceremony took place at 3.30pm. We had all been relaxing at Namale for a few days now so we woke up and had breakfast all together. Our guest were my mother and father, brother and sister in law, and the grooms brother. At breakfast our photographer also joined us so we could discuss our plan for the day! We brought our clothes and wedding gown to reception to be steamed. At 11am we separated and wouldn’t see each other until the ceremony! The girls headed to our private bure overlooking the ocean for hair and makeup. We were brought food and drinks and it was a very relaxing and stress free environment. Meanwhile the boys who didn’t take nearly as long to get ready ventured off to the blowhole on site to take photos and then went to the spa to soak in the hydrotherapy pools, hot tubs, and sauna. Then it was time for everyone to get dressed and meet at the aisle.

I had my hair and makeup done by Lodo from Totoka Hair & Make Up. They are based in Nadi and were very reasonably priced since we had to fly them to SavuSavu. One stylist was able to do both mine and my mother’s hair and makeup. We haven’t had our hair and makeup done much before so we were both excited and nervous on how we would look. We had so much fun with Lodo his enthusiasm took away all my nerves and he made us look so beautiful. I was in love with my makeup and hair it was everything I wanted. I couldn’t wait to get to the aisle to show Arthur!

My dress was by Davids Bridal USA – DB Studio SDWG0686. Arthur’s wedding attire was a white long sleeve button up shirt, a grey vest, grey Levi jeans and a pair of bright white Vans shoes.

CEREMONY

We chose an outdoor venue at Namale Resort and Spa’s Main Beach

All decor and set up provided by Namale Staff Fiji floral and palm leaves. Pink and tropical. Flowers and bouquets were all provided by Namale.

Our ceremony was short and sweet. It was about 10 minutes long. Even though it felt much longer! We had a church minister who read modern vows that summed us up as a couple. The vows were all about love and adventure. We chose to exchange our own vows to each other during our ceremony.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Laura Pittman from Island Encounters Photography was our photographer. We found Laura from the Namale wedding blog. There was a beautiful feature of a wedding and we were immediately like this is what we want our photographs to look like! Island Encounters Photography was tagged in the blog and we went and look at the Facebook page and immediately had to send an email. Laura responded quickly and was able to send us a few package options. Since we are both Scuba Instructors we have a strong passion for the ocean we saw that they offered an underwater photography session and we were like we have to do this!! We booked Laura for two days. The wedding ceremony and all the wedding day photographs then our sand and sea session where we ventured to a sandbar and jumped into the deep blue sea for some epic bride and groom portraits.

We absolutely love our photographs. Every single one. We cannot stop looking at them and sharing them with friends and family. I already want Laura to photograph us again when we have a family one day. Our photographs capture the vibrant colours we were able to look at every day at Namale. We love that we were able to go and capture photos everywhere we loved not just one location. We didn’t feel limited with options it was an adventure and pure fun. Honestly I cannot even put into words how beautiful our wedding photos make me feel. She was able to capture ‘us’ and that is priceless.

RECEPTION

For our reception we had it at Namale Resort and Spa Walu Restaurant on the Walu deck overlooking the sea.

We had beautiful big palm leaves wrapped around the poles of the restaurant with pink ribbon and bows along the walkway to our table for 7. The table was decorated with pink ginger flowers, candles, and pink ribbon.

We had a selection of drinks and everyone was able to pick what they wanted. Of course had to have a celebratory bottle of champagne. We had a selection of dinner options and again, everyone was able to pick what they wanted. Arthur and I both had lobster tail and steak.

Our wedding cake was a chocolate cake with chocolate icing. Decorated with real flowers and chocolate hearts.

  • ADVICE FOR BRIDES PLANNING A FIJI WEDDING:
  • Definitely get married in Fiji. I loved our venue, hair and makeup and photographer so I would recommend booking them all. Make sure you keep your wedding what you both want not what everyone else wants. Arrive early so you can relax and recover from traveling if you are from overseas. We arrived on a Friday and got married on a Tuesday. If you are traveling from overseas keep your gown and groom’s clothes as a carry on in a garment bag. Wear lots of sunscreen! Stay hydrated! Have fun, don’t stress and enjoy every second of it!

  • HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY:
  • Everything and everyone!! It was honestly such a dream come true. We will look back on our photos forever and remember the warmth and love Fiji left in our hearts. We are so happy with our decisions and our vendors. This was the perfect way for us to celebrate and rejoice in our marriage.
