As some of you may know I’m very active online and in the groups watching you all plan your day along with helping along the way. So when I get a submission in my inbox from one of those bride’s and see what an absolutely stunning and amazing day her and her hubby had – it literally warms my heart! I love in particular the after wedding buzz!
Brianna is one of those brides. Brianna and Dean opted for an InterContinental Fiji Wedding after becoming engaged 12 months before in Vanuatu. Surrounded by 40+ loved ones, their day was filled with love, tears and style! Seriously, one of the most stylish weddings I have seen in a while.
Kama Catch Me was there to capture their day. Brianna joins the blog to share the details of their InterContinental Fiji Wedding. Enjoy!
The Planning / We decided on Fiji as our idyllic wedding destination because we love the beautiful sunshine, crystal clear waters, swaying palm trees and friendly people.
We always knew we were going to have a destination wedding with our closest friends and family attending. We wanted our wedding to be small and intimate so that we could spend time with everyone. This was very important to us as we’ve recently moved to the Pilbara in Western Australia so it was wonderful to see everyone again. We even had family come all the way from England to join us in the celebrations.
After seven years together we didn’t want a long engagement – why wait? We got straight into wedding planning and decided on the incredibly beautiful ‘InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa’ as our wedding venue. The whole wedding was planned in under 12 months.
The Bride Wore / Karen Willis Holmes ‘Saskia’ Gown – it was my dream wedding gown! It had layers of ivory and latte tulle, a lace bodice with a blush underlay and also had lace applique on the waist. I also wore a cathedral length Alex Perry veil and Samantha Wills earrings.
The Ceremony / The ceremony was held in the beautiful Loloma Chapel at the Intercontinental. The views from the chapel are picture perfect. We couldn’t have chosen a better location for the ceremony.
The chapel was decorated with lots of soft greenery and white orchids tied to the chapel pews to line the aisle. The flower arrangements in the chapel were filled with greenery, white orchids and pink flowers. We also tied ivory and latte tulle bows with a wooden heart in the centre around each of the wooden pews. We had bright coloured bougainvillea petals for our flower shower as we exited the chapel – everything was just perfect!
We wrote our own wedding vows for the ceremony and didn’t share them with each other until we heard them on the day. This was the highlight of the whole wedding for us. It made the ceremony so personal, emotional and incredibly special. We also had one of our beautiful friends Tori do a reading – it was a poem titled ‘I will be here’ by Steven Curtis Chapman.
The Maids Wore / My two sisters who were my bridesmaids wore gorgeous Lisa Ho gowns. They were ivory with a nude/latte panel down the front and back, they were so soft and flowed beautifully. They also wore a nude Samantha Wills Bardot ring.
The Reception / Right from the start I had a very clear vision of how I wanted the reception space to look and be styled. With the help of my mum, sisters and mother in law we styled the reception space ourselves. We took over champagne gold sequin table runners, tea light holders, ivory and latte tulle to tie around the chairs, table numbers in white wash wooden frames, ‘I Spy’ cards for the tables etc. We also decided that our seating plan for guests would be a message in a bottle to tie in with the beach reception. We had fairy lights and white lanterns to light up the reception space – it also made it feel more magical!
The highlight of the reception setup for us though was the stunning floral bridal table arrangement by Tadra flowers. They exceeded our expectations! I couldn’t stop looking at it all night – it was simply amazing.
The Cake / The wedding cake was made with a lot of love by Dean’s incredibly talented mum who is a cake artist, her business is called ‘Absolutely Cakey’. It was beautiful – four tiers of cherry ripe mud cake. It was decorated with edible champagne gold sequins, and floral patterned fondant. It was also topped with fresh pink gingers and white orchids.
The Entertainment / We really wanted Ranjit Raju to DJ at our wedding but he was unfortunately already booked. He was so incredibly helpful though and booked us DJ Moheet who was fantastic! He had all our key reception songs ready and had all of our guests up dancing long into the night!
We also had fire dancers perform at the reception. They were amazing – where else can you have entertainment like that at your wedding? I highly recommend having them. They got all the ladies up to dance followed by the guys. It really started the party after all of the formalities were over and was something special for our guests to remember.
The Advice / Don’t lose sight of the real reason why you are getting married – Rain, hail or beautiful Fijian sunshine your wedding in paradise will be magical. Part of having a destination wedding means that it doesn’t matter how much you plan, some things will turn out differently to the way you envisioned them to be – but this is all part of the wedding celebration and your day will still be magnificent!
